With a little over a week left in the winter transfer window, it is safe to say Celtic have left themselves a lot of work to do. There are a lot of areas where the Hoops still need to improve if Martin O'Neill is going to have a serious chance of turning things around and compete for the remaining two pieces of domestic silverware.

So far, they have been successful in making just two additions to the squad, even though it had been clear from the very beginning that a lot of work was needed in this winter window. Both of them are loan deals, one being Julian Araujo of Bournemouth and the other being Tomas Cvancara of Borussia Monchengladbach.

There are other positions in need of strengthening as well. One of them might be their midfield, as the club have not had a proper defensive midfielder for years now.

The likes of Ismaila Soro and Tomoki Iwata did have runs in the team. But they did not turn out to be sustainable.

Niko Sigur is one player who has been linked with a move to Celtic recently, although it is unclear how serious the interest is. It has recently emerged that the Rangers would like to sign the Canadian international as well. But it looks like the player himself would prefer a move to Parkhead over Ibrox.

As reported by CeltsAreHere, Mark Hendry said:

"I do believe that Rangers were the other club, or one of the other clubs, that were sniffing around.

“But the player wants a move to Celtic, or at the very least would prefer a move to Celtic, which I’m sure fans will be delighted to hear.

“It’s just now about the hierarchy getting around the table with the representation or Hajduk Split contacts that they’ve got and trying to get something done.

“He’s definitely one to keep an eye on."

Sigur currently plays for Croatian side Hajduk Split. He has also represented the Canadian national team on 15 appearances.

Let's see what the future holds for Sigur and Celtic. He is someone who could potentially be a very good long-term addition for the Hoops. That being said, are the club willing to make a serious push to sign him.
