In the summer, Celtic allowed one of their most confusing exits in recent memory to take place. Adam Idah joined Swansea City late in the transfer window, even though a replacement had not been brought in beforehand. This happened after the club had done the same in the winter when Kyogo Furuhashi had left for Rennes.
Now, another Celtic man has left the club in order to join Swansea City. This time around, the change is on the pitch and not behind the scenes though.
The club's Head of Scouting Operations, Jay Lefevre has confirmed on his LinkedIn account that he has left his role at Celtic. He has joined Swansea City as their Chief Scout.
He posted an emotional farewell message on his profile, thanking the club for trusting him to take on the role when he was just 29 years of age. An excerpt from it reads:
"The past 6 years have exceeded all expectations and given me so many positive memories that I’ll be eternally grateful for. I now look forward to watching from a distance with only fond memories and wish the club the best.
I will now start a new chapter at Swansea City Football Club, where I will become the Chief Scout."
Another Celtic exit to Swansea City officially confirmed
Well, scouting is one of the things that fans have had complaints about in recent years. Clearly, the club have been successful in discovering some gems, especially during the Ange Postecoglou era. But overall, they have also signed a lot of players who could not even get into the first-team picture and were moved on quickly.
That being said, one has to recognise that the scouts are most probably working under a lot of constraints as well. So, it would be unfair to put the blame squarely on the recruitment team for all the mistakes that have taken place over the years. We can only wish Lefevre the best of luck in his future endeavours.
As for Celtic, let's hope that things improve moving forward when it comes to their scouting and recruitment. That has been a weak point for the club, especially since the departure of Postecoglou, which is why the squad has deteriorated to this point.
