Celtic and the Rangers both booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final this weekend. The Hoops were a class apart, winning 6-0 against Aberdeen in what was a statement performance after the Dons had maintained pace with them in the Premiership and even come from a couple of goals down at half-time to earn a draw at Parkhead.
On the other hand, the Rangers were far less convincing. They went a goal down against Motherwell but had enough in the tank to complete a comeback and win 2-1.
The final is going to be played in the middle of December. And unexpectedly, Ange Postecoglou could end up having a say on the result.
That is because the Rangers are going to play Tottenham Hotspur at Ibrox just a couple of days before the Scottish League Cup final. And despite the Hampden Park showcase on the horizon, that is not a game that Philippe Clement's side can afford to take lightly if they want to progress in Europe. On the other hand, Celtic will travel to Croatia to take on Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League but they will get a few extra days of rest.
Ange Postecoglou could help Celtic win League Cup vs Rangers
Based on current form, one has to place Celtic as the favourites for the League Cup final against the Rangers. That being said, the match is still over a month away and a lot can change between now and then.
The Glasgow Derby is a fixture where form often goes out of the window. So, Celtic cannot afford to take anything but their A-game to Hampden Park next month.
It was Celtic's League Cup win a couple of years back when the supporters first started really believing in Postecoglou. He would go on to defend the title the following year. Could he end up having an effect in determining the competition's winner a third time? Time shall tell.
