Ange Postecoglou knows what it takes to succeed in derbies. During his time as Celtic manager, he enjoyed continuous success against the Rangers. Not only did the Australian win five out of six domestic trophies he competed for while in Scotland but had a brilliant head-to-head record when it came to the Glasgow Derby.
At Tottenham Hotspur, things have been a bit more difficult for him. After drawing his first North London Derby, Postecoglou has tasted defeat twice against Arsenal.
So, Postecoglou continues to search for success when it comes to the North London Derby. And it is quite clear that he knows what it means to the supporters.
As reported by BBC, Postecoglou said while talking about the North London Derby:
"It's like being up in Glasgow, you're well aware of what it means and the ramifications of both the positive and negative.
"This year is as big as they ever come, especially for us and our season. We have to start winning games in the league and no better place to start.
"Big game for the club, big game for our season, big game for our supporters... so I'm looking forward to it."
Ange Postecoglou makes Celtic claim before Arsenal vs Tottenham
It remains to be seen how things play out for Postecoglou in the upcoming North London Derby. Tottenham Hotspur have been very inconsistent this season and injuries have a lot to do that.
That being said, Postecoglou has shown the ability to get wins over big teams. Tottenham Hotspur, despite their terrible results in recent months, have won against both Manchester City and Liverpool. How many teams can say that?
On the other hand, Celtic have something to think about when it comes to the Glasgow Derby as well. They were handed a big defeat in the most recent one, losing 3-0 against the Rangers at Ibrox.
Such a one-sided derby defeat has been rare for Celtic in recent years and would have been a hard pill to swallow for the Hoops. Hopefully, it serves as a wake up call and they seek ways to improve this winter rather than letting the squad stagnate. They cannot afford to get comfortable as there is a lot of football left to be played this season.
