Kieran Tierney has been linked with a Celtic return for many years now. In the past, it had felt like nothing more than wishful thinking. While the Parkhead connection was strong, it was hard to imagine that the Scotsman would leave the Premier League in his prime in order to head back to Glasgow. But now, it feels like it is not only a possibility but also close to becoming reality.

It is believed that Arsenal passed on the chance to extend Tierney's contract by another year. It is not hard to understand why considering his long injury history and limited involvement in recent seasons.

So, Tierney is set to become a free agent in the summer. It also means that he is free to agree to a pre-contract starting this month. An opportunity that Celtic might not be willing to pass them by.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are close to agreeing pre-contract terms with Tierney. The Scottish club are also expected to explore the possibility of taking the Arsenal left-back on loan until the end of the season, especially if they qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds.

The big question mark surrounding Tierney is about his fitness. There is no doubt that he is a quality left-back. Perhaps one of the best in the Premier League on his day.

Unfortunately, Tierney has struggled with injuries dating back to his time at Celtic. So, any club that signs him will be aware of the risk.

That being said, this might be too good of a chance for Celtic to not take it. It is not every day that you get the opportunity to sign a player of Tierney's quality and on top of that, it won't cost them anything in terms of transfer fees.
