Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is backing a reported Hoops target for a move this summer. The Bhoys have already been linked with plenty of potential targets, but they are yet to make their move.

Martin O'Neill has now been in place for weeks at this stage, but still no transfers have been announced, and it doesn't appear as though any deals are particularly close.

It has been a source of real frustration for the Hoops fans, who were hoping the club had learned from last summer's poor recruitment, which set up a disappointing start to the season.

Just move backed

One of the players Celtic have been linked with this summer is Motherwell and New Zealand forward Elijah Just. The pacey winger went straight from an impressive season with Motherwell, scoring seven and assisting eight, to netting two in his first game of the World Cup for New Zealand.

Celtic had already been linked in the past, but the World Cup goals only heightened links, with Motherwell looking increasingly unlikely to be able to keep hold of the winger this summer.

And former Bhoys boss Postecoglou believes Just will be on the move.

“Elijah Just has had an unbelievable season at Motherwell,” he said on ITV. "He will probably get a move. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he gets a move from there.”

Is Just a good fit for Celtic?

It's tough to say whether Celtic should go after Just. It cannot be denied that the winger impressed for Motherwell, enjoying a productive campaign, but it's not as if he set the world alight, and at 26 years of age, there will be questions about him being too close to his ceiling to hope he will go on to big things. Although, he may well enjoy even better numbers at a team like Celtic, where we will get more of the ball and better players around him.

The Bhoys should be careful not to get sucked into the World Cup buzz, though. We have seen over and over that goals at a World Cup don't mean all that much in terms of a player's ability. The competition can be a great showcase, but it also sees players going against poorer teams, and it can be easy for players to look better than they are.

It also allows clubs to inflate asking prices, and Celtic should not be sucked into paying above the odds for Just as a consequence of that.
