Andrew Robertson was part of the Celtic youth ranks at one point in time. But it is believed that he was not highly rated by some at the club. So, he had to find his feet elsewhere but has gone on to establish himself as a Liverpool legend since then. Quite the rise for someone who could not make the ranks at Parkhead.
Robertson continues to be a part of Liverpool's plan as they seem to have dealt exceedingly well with Jurgen Klopp's departure. They are leading the Premier League by five points under the management of Arne Slot, who has taken to life at Anfield like a duck to water.
Robertson recently took part in a roundtable interview with fellow Liverpool legends and teammates, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker. The trio were asked about their inspirations.
Robertson ended up naming Henrik Larsson as his inspiration growing up. The left-back said on Reds Roundtable:
"I think when I was really young probably Henrik Larsson. I think he was the hero in Scotland."
Andrew Robertson tells Mo Salah that Celtic hero was his inspiration
It is no secret that Robertson grew up as a Celtic fan. So, it should not come as a surprise to anybody that Larsson was an inspiration to him.
Larsson was the best player in Scotland during that period of time and must have been an idol to most Celtic supporters who were growing up in that era. Of course, Robertson soon realised that he was not going to be a goalscorer and ended up idolising those on the other end of the pitch.
It is great to see someone like Robertson give Larsson the recognition that he deserves. He was truly a one of a kind player and we have not seen anybody of that quality playing in Scotland since then. One could make an argument for Virgil van Dijk, considering what he went on to achieve. But his time at Parkhead was short and he did not his prime years playing for the Hoops, which 'The King of Kings' did.
