For weeks, we have been talking about Celtic's need to strengthen the squad. Flag Day has come and gone, and despite a shaky performance against St Mirren, it looks like there is no urgency on the part of the club to make additions to the squad. They brought in €19 million from Nicolas Kuhn's move to Como FC. There was also a healthy sell-on windfall from Jeremie Frimpong's Liverpool transfer. And yet, the Scottish champions have spent just £3 million on fees so far this summer.
To be honest, with no moves looking imminent, this transfer window is starting to get a bit boring, and worrying, if you are a Celtic fan. The club's former players continue to remain in the headlines though.
Recently, Greg Taylor completed a free transfer to PAOK. And it appears that he is set to be joined a former Celtic teammate in Greece.
It is someone who looks to make his third switch since leaving Celtic in 2023. As reported by Giannis Chorianopoulos, PAOK and Cruz Azul have an agreement in principle for Giorgos Giakoumakis.
'Agreement' - Transfer news drops that will interest Celtic fans
One could argue that Giakoumakis does not get the credit that he deserves for his role in Celtic's success during his brief but impactful spell in Glasgow. When Kyogo got injured in the 21/22 campaign, he helped power the Hoops' to the Premiership title.
Giakoumakis finished that season as the top scorer in the league, despite barely playing regularly for half of it. But when Kyogo was available, he was clearly the second-choice striker.
Ultimately, Giakoumakis would end up leaving in 2023, merely 18 months after arriving at Celtic, to join Atlanta United. He had a solid spell in the MLS and then ended up in Cruz Azul. And now, it looks like he is headed back to his homeland of Greece, and will reunite with Taylor.
