The fans are waiting on Celtic to make some quality signings with time quickly running out on this summer transfer window. It is increasingly looking like the plan is to see the result of the Champions League qualifiers, and whether the Hoops are able to secure their place in the main phase of the competition, before showing any real ambition in the market. Of course, in the eyes of many, that approach is counterproductive.
Well, let's see how things play out in that regard. On the other hand, it appears that there is still quite a bit of interest in players who are currently at Celtic.
The club have said goodbye to Nicolas Kuhn and Luis Palma this summer. And it had looked like everything was in place for Marco Tilio to move to Rapid Vienna as well, until an unexpected twist in the tale.
Celtic are lacking options on the flanks right now. That appears to have stalled Tilio's move to Rapid Vienna, who are clearly interested in signing him.
European club publicly confirm they want to sign Celtic player
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rapid Vienna sporting director Markus Katzer has said about the deal:
"There is interest. We’re monitoring things.
“We had interest in him before then Celtic signed him as well.
“We’re looking at players in his position and we’re certainly interested in him but that doesn’t mean it’s a done deal."
Tilio does not seem to be a key part of the club's plans right now. But he is an option on the wing. And they cannot afford to even lose that at the moment, due to the lack of depth in that area of the pitch.
It is remarkable that Celtic have not gone out and replaced Kuhn, even though it has been weeks since he left the club in order to join Como FC in Italy. The Hoops brought in around €19 million out of his exit but have spent just £3 million so far this summer on transfer fees. That does not make for good reading.
