At this point in time, it is very important for Celtic to add some quality to Brendan Rodgers' squad. Hopefully, they will do that, although fans must be worried with just a couple of weeks left in the summer transfer window. The time has just flown by and unfortunately, the board has not done enough so far.
At the same time, it is important to keep the club's current crop of players together as well. Not just for the present but for the future as well.
The goalkeeping position is one that remains up in the air. Kasper Schmeichel is currently the number one. But is this the season where Viljami Sinisalo will slowly start to replace him over the course of the campaign? Or do Celtic plan to bring in someone new when the Danish legend's contract runs out?
It does look like they are set to hand an extension to a highly-rated goalkeeper who has impressed in the youth and academy ranks. As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are set to hand Marcus Gill a new deal. He has been offered a new long-term contract and talks are now advanced.
'Advanced' - Celtic close to reaching agreement over new deal
Gill has gotten a taste of first-team football already. He was sent on an emergency loan to Inverness last season and actually did pretty well with the chances he was given.
Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him. If a new deal is agreed, expect him to be sent out on another loan, to a club where he will get regular game time.
That being said, the goalkeeping position is arguably the hardest to break into at Celtic. So, it would take something special for Gill to get himself in that spot in the future.
