This summer transfer window is going to be an important one for Celtic, especially if the Rangers' takeover by the San Francisco 49ers ends up going through. The Hoops must maintain the gap that exists between the two Glasgow teams at the moment. At the same time, there must be a hunger to go far in the Champions League once again, having made it to the knockout phase this time around.

One signing that Celtic will be making this summer is that of Kieran Tierney. The Arsenal left-back has already put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with the Hoops and could potentially be arriving at Parkhead as a Champions League winner.

The backup left-back slot remains up in the air though. It is unlikely that Jeffrey Schlupp will be here next season, considering how underwhelming his recent performances have been. On the other hand, while the Hoops have been pushing for a Greg Taylor extension, no deal has been announced yet.

So, they must keep an eye out for alternative options at left-back. The Scotsman have suggested Harry Toffolo of Nottingham Forest as one and called him a 'smart value signing'.

Toffolo has not featured much for Nottingham Forest this season, only making six appearances, as his side have challenged for a top-four finish. He proved his value to Nuno Espirito Santo's team though, putting in an excellent display in the win against Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur. It was his first Premier League start of the campaign.

At 29 years of age, Toffolo should have plenty left in the tank, and on paper, he is in his prime. His current deal with Nottingham Forest is set to run out in the summer and he is not expected to be handed an extension. So, it might be a move worth considering for Celtic.

Toffolo could be a perfect fit as the backup left-back to Tierney, in the scenario that Taylor leaves and Celtic need to bring in a replacement. The 29-year-old has had a bit of a journeyman career and played across the top four divisions of the English football pyramid.

So, one would expect someone of his experience to be able to adjust to the role. Also, considering Tierney's injury history, there would be a need to rest from time to time. So, Toffolo should be able to get a decent bit of playing time as well.
