Ange Postecoglou’s tricky striker dilemma

It’s been a critical point of worry for the Hoops this season that they haven’t put away as many of the chances they create as they need to. This has been apparent in the big games in the Champions League, when they have had to pay the price for their missed opportunities.

Strengthening the striker depth in the squad should be the priority in January and the rumours of potentially signing Cho Gue-sung are exciting but yet to lead somewhere.

We could still see big money transfer bids come in for any of Kyogo Furuhashi, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Liel Abada or Jota. Daizen Maeda also caught the eye with his performances at the World Cup, even scoring for Japan in the last 16 against Croatia. James Forrest seems more likely to remain in place for now, following his struggles with form and fitness in the last several years.

It  wouldn’t be a popular move to sell a star forward but bringing players in on bargain deals and then letting them leave for higher fees is a policy that the club has to follow in order to progress. Departures of Celtic’s stars are pretty much inevitable at some stage, as the fans must have already gotten used to seeing their favourites leave over the years.

Out of the forward line, Giakoumakis seems like the most likely to leave after rumours have broken out that the club failed to agree a contract extension with him. Let’s see if that leads to the Greek striker’s exit in the January transfer window.
