The Celtic midfield is where the surprise may lie

There seems more scope for a surprise and a sudden move from the midfielder department. While there are obvious contenders like James McCarthy and Scott Robertson for either permanent or loan departures, there are others only very recently signed like Oliver Abildgaard and Aaron Mooy who are expected to both remain.

Yosuke Ideguchi is still working towards getting a decent injury free run in the squad to show what he is capable of. Callum McGregor will be keen to return from injury and lead the team to his second league title as skipper and hopefully more silverware along the way. But there could be a potential exit amongst Reo Hatate, David Turnbull and Matt O’Riley.

Hatate has been turning in some great performances this season and O’Riley has already been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Both players have developed significantly over the last year and will hopefully continue on at Parkhead.

Equally both will have been disappointed to be overlooked for their national teams for the World Cup and may potentially see a move away as an forward step. If a big money offer arrives on the table in January, one cannot rule a move completely out.

Turnbull has had rumours of interest from elsewhere, with West Ham United an often mentioned possible destination. He is not starting games as often as he may want and does not seem like the type of player who will feature in Postecoglou’s starting XI heavily moving forward either, unless there is an injury crisis at the club.
