Ange, Maeda, bad form: 3 things we learned from Celtic vs Hibernian
Things looking worrying for Celtic
This was not an underwhelming performance in isolation for Celtic. They have looked pretty much off the pace since the first half against Aberdeen. And this is starting to become a huge worry for Ange Postecoglou.
There is still a long way to go in the season and it does feel like the pressure of sitting at the top, combined with playing this high intensity of football, is having a negative effect on this team.
Things cannot continue like this though if the Hoops are to win the Premiership and the Champions League spot that is up for grabs, especially with a couple of Glasgow Derbies yet to be played and the Rangers coming off of a confidence boosting Europa League win against Borussia Dortmund over two legs.
This is not time to panic. But it is certainly time to be worried and look to make fixes before the Rangers end up returning to the top again.
Celtic missed Giakoumakis while Maeda worries grow
Celtic missed someone like Giorgos Giakoumakis on the day, who could be the focal point of their attack. The Greek striker also helps the wingers at the same time.
It is still early days for Maeda at Celtic, but at this point of time, he does not look like someone who can lead the line for the Hoops.
He has scored a few goals but overall, he just has not been particularly impressive. It might take some time for the Japanese star to adjust to the Scottish game.
But with Kyogo out, Celtic do not have any other option at this point of time either. Let’s just hope that Giakoumakis is back as soon as possible, because without him up front, this team is certainly missing a target man up top, especially since they appear to be depending a lot on crosses.
