Another area that Celtic could do with more options in is centre-back. Cameron Carter-Vickers is only on loan at the moment and he has been the club’s most consistent defender this season.

Carl Starfelt has shown flashes of brilliance but then, he has also put in many performances which have raised eyebrows and have been a cause for major worry.

Stephen Welsh is a solid back up option to have in the squad but is not ready to start regularly yet. And Christopher Jullien is only returning to training from a long-term injury that had kept him out of action for over a year. Thus, it will be interesting to see if he can rediscover his best form once again.

Chelsea’s Malang Sarr could be a solid loan option for Celtic to consider. He has not played a lot of football this season for the Blues but has impressed recently whenever he has been on the pitch. His recent performance against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup semi-final is a great example of that.

He spent the previous season on loan at FC Porto and has been linked with another potential loan move this January. And if Celtic are able to bring him in, it has the potential to be a brilliant signing.

Cole Palmer, Manchester City

Celtic have signed quite a few players from Manchester City on loan in the past and they must definitely keep an eye on Palmer.

He has looked head and shoulders above the rest at the youth level and has already made quite a few appearances for Pep Guardiola’s first-team as well.

But at this point of time, he is not expected to play regular football for one of the strongest teams in the history of the Premier League. Thus, a loan move might make sense.

Of course, Manchester City could decide to go the Phil Foden route and keep him at the club until he is ready.
