Celtic’s bargaining position has weakened

The scale of the transformation needed for the Celtic squad remains considerable. That is no secret and it means other clubs will recognise that as well, when dealing with the Hoops.

This January transfer window will not be about adding the final touches to an excellent squad, it’s much more basic than that. Celtic have some excellent players in their ranks, but as a squad, they are far too light in several positions to be considered as ‘excellent’.

That makes the club’s bargaining position just that bit weaker when it comes to the transfer market. And it remains to be seen how they are able to navigate through the situation.

Celtic may have an advantage over some other clubs in terms of Ange Postecoglou’s experience from having managed in Japan, but the success of Kyogo Furuhashi so far is likely to have raised interest when it comes to J1 League stars.

We may have some solid knowledge, but the advantage may very well turn out to be short lived.  The club are being linked with players like Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate , both of whom appear to be excellent prospects. And it is important that they get things done as quickly as possible.

There is a lot to do in the upcoming January transfer window when it comes to Celtic. Postecoglou has done an excellent job till now with the cards that he was dealt and made the most of the situation. But now, it is important to give him the backing needed to make a run at the Scottish Premiership title.

Let’s see how things turn out. There will be be a lot of hope and expectation from the fans though, as it looks like this could be a very exciting January transfer window for Celtic.
