Nir Bitton is a player who has divided the opinion of Celtic fans over the years. He has been with the club since 2013 and at times, he has appeared to be a very important member of the squad and at others, he has looked like only a backup option if the situation calls for it.

That situation might very well have arrived though. Tom Rogic has been in brilliant form in recent times but went down with an injury recently and is expected to spend some time out of action.

On the other hand, Ismaila Soro has failed to impress this season while James McCarthy has had his fair share of injury problems since arriving in the summer.

Ange Postecoglou might have to bring Bitton into the team now, considering the lack of options in the middle of the park at the moment. And if that does happen, it will be interesting to see how he performs, since he has not played a lot of football this season till now.

Stephen Welsh

Coming into the season, many felt that Stephen Welsh could become the regular starter at centre-back for Celtic this season. And in the early phases of the season, that did look like the case.

He has found minutes on the pitch hard to come by in recent games though, following the arrivals of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers over the summer.

The duo have appeared to form a good partnership in the heart of the Celtic defence and have established their spots in Postecoglou’s starting XI. That has seen Welsh spend a lot of time on the bench though.

And it is safe to say that the youngster does deserve some time on the pitch even if he is not a regular starter right now. Not just to keep him up to speed but to also continue his development. At 21 years of age, he needs to be playing more.
