Danny McGrain is enormously impressed by a young star at Celtic now and sees a huge future for the player. Along with an enormous value on his head for when he might move on.

You’d be excited if Danny McGrain knew your name and who you are. He’s an undoubted legend at Celtic who set his own very high standards rampaging forward from the back four in the Hoops during his own playing days. So if McGrain goes further and talks about how great a prospect you are, you’d be mightily excited indeed.

Step forward Jeremie Frimpong who must be delighted and over the football moon at hearing McGrain talking about him. Frimpong is only 19 so has a huge long future ahead. It’s only just a year since he signed for Celtic in a remarkably good value deal for £350k from Manchester City. Shrewd negotiating by City to some extent has taken that fee to £1m so far with some appearance add ins kicking in.

McGrain was reported in the Scottish Sun as being very enthusiastic on Frimpong’s form and future:

"“Frimpong is an excellent young player.“He’s only 19 — I can’t wait to see him play when he’s in his 20s.“And, of course, his pace which is excellent for somebody of his size and build.”"

McGrain saw some comparisons with himself as a player. He reckons they are about the same height and  have similar desires to attack, to play wide on the wing, getting forward as much as possible. Celtic fans have also taken great delight in watching Frimpong on the pitch, his drive and enthusiasm is infectious, alongside super talent and skill. McGain added more praise:

"“He’s full of confidence and I admire the runs he makes. He’s clever.“It’s looking very good for Frimpong and I really hope he can be at Celtic for a long time.“If he isn’t at the club for a long time, then the way he’s going I’m pretty sure there will be £50m in the bank for him!"

That’s some statement and valuation from McGrain, but he knows a player when he sees one so identifying a rising star with a real future is well within his capabilities. Frimpong has added to that huge impression, returning to the first team in Riga to replace the injured James Forrest, he took the game by storm.

He also wowed everyone with an impressive performance against Hibs at the weekend. Looks like he’s wowed a legend too!
