Shane Duffy’s Celtic transfer rumour proven to be false
The latest transfer rumour surrounding Shane Duffy’s move to Celtic has proven to be false, hours after sending the Hoops fans into a frenzy.
It is no secret that Celtic want to bring Shane Duffy to Parkhead in the current transfer window. Over the past year or so, it has become clear that physical strikers are an Achilles heel when it comes to this Hoops defence, with both Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer struggling to cope with them.
Someone like Shane Duffy will surely change that though as he has already shown that he is more than capable of dealing with Premier League oppositions during his time at Brighton and Hove Albion. Currently he finds himself out of favour at the club though, which has opened up an opportunity for him to join Celtic.
While a £2 million fee for a season-long loan has been touted, it has always seemed that a move is possible. And Duffy sent Hoops fans into a frenzy, when he posted a picture from an airplane, which was quickly followed by his brother sharing a photo of the Celtic badge on Instagram. People put two and two together, concluding that he must be travelling to Scotland to seal his Parkhead switch.
Well, as it turns out, that plane is indeed headed to Scotland. But to St Andrews, where Brighton and Hove Albion will undergo pre-season training, and not Glasgow.
This will come as a blow to a lot of Celtic fans whose hopes had been raised earlier in the day. But this does not mean in any way that Duffy won’t be joining the Hoops this season. It’s just that it is not going to happen today like a lot of us had been led to believe.
