Celtic star warned of potential exit from the club
Australia assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has expressed surprise at the prospect of Tom Rogic leaving Celtic Park for the Middle East.
Due to the imminent arrival of David Turnbull expected to be finalised almost immediately, there is large expectancy that 27-year-old Rogic will be ending his seven year stay with Celtic.
Rogic is rumoured to be connected to a club in Qatar and the Australian manager Graham Arnold has already hinted at the reason Rogic may see his exit. He claims the Australian’s happiness has a large part in leaving.
Despite this, former Manchester United coach Meulensteen believes that top clubs south of the border and overseas should be pining for the attacking midfielder’s signature.
Here is what he told the Daily Record:
"“I’m really quite surprised a Premier League club, or a top Championship team, or even a team elsewhere in Europe that’s pushing for Champions League or Europe League hasn’t come for him.“He’s at a great age and has fantastic qualities and is tactically also very intelligent. Used well, in the right system, he can be a big asset for a lot of teams.”"
In relation to his qualities, the Dutchman’s depiction of fan favourite Rogic could not be any more on the money. Rogic has produced some magnificent moments in the green and white jersey; namely the famous treble winning goal vs Aberdeen back in 2017, alongside a tremendous swerving strike away to arch-rivals Rangers in a memorable 3-2 win at Ibrox the following campaign.
However, fitness concerns and constant misfortune with injuries have really hampered the Australian in his career development. Featuring only 22 times across 2019/20, he just has not spent enough time on the field for the Celts in modern times and now could be the right time to cash in. £4 million is the alleged fee for his conceivable departure. No matter what happens regarding the technically gifted Rogic and his future, he has given everyone at Celtic some amazing memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Moving to Qatar would stand him in good stead from a financial standpoint, and a chance to make his name in an ever-evolving footballing nations domestic realm.
