Pundit Michael Stewart has just claimed that Celtic fans have no idea just how good one of the club’s targets could be for the club.
Celtic have long been connected to certain players and one in particular connection just will not go away. The player in question is Motherwell midfielder and youngster David Turnbull. The Hoops had a deal in place for Turnbull last year but the deal fell through due to a knee issue.
At just 21-years-old, Turnbull fits right into the profile the clubs likes to pursue. The midfielder is young enough to continue to be developed by Celtic’s renown program, but is also talented enough to make an immediate impact on the squad. Futhermore, he can help the club for the next few years and could eventually develop into a player worth selling-on.
The midfield is slightly packed right now, but Scott Brown won’t be at the club forever (as a player) and Olivier Ntcham very well could be sold if the price is right. Turnbull would do well to slot into the squad if either of those scenarios come to fruition.
Michael Stewart had some great compliments to give Turnbull in the Scottish Sun that would make even the most skeptical of Hoops supporters become fans of the potential move:
"“Over the past week I’ve seen chat from Celtic fans on social media happy enough with the move. But I don’t think these supporters actually realise just how good this kid is — and how good he could be. They spoke about McGinn the same way, that he was one for the future more than now.“The general impression seemed to be he was good, but would he have gone there and started? It looks a stupid question now — of course he would have. For me Turnbull is a ready-made Celtic first-team player.“I know the competition is stiff there with guys like Olivier Ntcham not starting every week. But Turnbull is of that level now, never mind two, three or four years down the line.“You don’t get that often. Ryan Christie has matured into a top drawer player now. But when Celtic signed him at 20 they let him go back to Inverness and then Aberdeen on loan. Turnbull is ready to go in there and play right now.”"
Again, Turnbull fits the perfect profile for Celtic and the club should pull the trigger on making the acquisition. A fit player of Turnbull’s quality could really be a future asset to the club, both on the pitch and in the transfer market in a few year’s time.
