Celtic have identified transfer alternative for Shane Duffy
Celtic have identified an alternative target in case they fail in their attempts to sign Shane Duffy from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Celtic have been chasing Shane Duffy for quite some time now but have failed to seal a deal till now. The boyhood Hoops fan seems keen to move to Parkhead for 10IAR season but there is always the small matter of agreeing a deal with the Premier League side.
A £2 million fee for a season-long loan has been floated around and it does seem that Celtic might actually be willing to pay. But a lot of other Premier League sides seem to be interested in the Republic of Ireland international and if a bidding war breaks out, there is no way the Hoops can match them.
Thus, it might be the best idea to have a backup option in case the move does not happen. And Reading captain Liam Moore seems to be that man according to reports in The Scottish Sun.
The 27-year-old has established himself as a regular in the Championship side since joining them four years back and to his credit, they do possess one of the best defences in the bottom half of that league. And he is available for a figure reported to be around £4-million.
It is clear though that Duffy is the better defender out of the two. In fact, the only facet of Moore’s game that is better than the Brighton man is his passing. Other than that, Duffy is better than almost every other department and he has done it at a higher level than the Reading captain, which should count for a lot. Especially when we are going for 10IAR.
If given the choice between the two, it is clear that Celtic should pick Duffy. But Moore is not a terrible Plan B if that move falls through.
