Shane Duffy has been linked with Celtic in recent times and the Brighton defender appeared to drop a transfer hint on social media.

If you ask any Celtic who their dream signing would be in this window, it would probably be Shane Duffy. The Brighton centre-back has been linked with the Hoops in recent weeks and there is no doubt that bringing him in would improve the defence exponentially.

Through the course of the past two seasons, it has become pretty clear that neither Kristoffer Ajer nor Christopher Jullien enjoy playing against a physical striker. We have seen evidence of that time and time again, and the club would do well to bring in a different kind of defender. And Shane Duffy looks like that man.

He is a no-nonsense defender who has shown that he can stand up against the best of oppositions in the Premier League. In his two seasons as a first-team regular for Brighton, they conceded 54 and 60 goals, respectively. A very respectable total for a bottom 10 team. And he would surely bring the solidity that Celtic seem to be lacking at the back right now.

On top of that, Duffy is a boyhood fan of the Hoops and he would know what 10IAR means to the club. And the defender has started following Celtic on Instagram as transfer rumours start to intensify. That is a pretty big clue in modern football and we have seen multiple players do the same before joining a new club in recent times.

Fans would be hoping that this is a sign of things to come. A £2 million loan fee is what Brighton seem to want for the out of favour defender. And considering how big of an impact his signing could have on the season, Celtic should not think twice before shelling it out.
