Former Celtic leftback and superstar Kieran Tierney just recently revealed that Celtic was on the verge of singing an Arsenal star.

In some cases Celtic supporters are quite aware of instances when the club has come close to a signing or not. Despite the Hoops playing the transfer windows close to the chest, there is always two parties involved in negotiations. Leaks occur to help drive interest in players and when it comes to the Hoops, those leaks rarely occur on their end.

Now, former Celtic superstar and current Arsenal player Kieran Tierney has pulled back the curtain on some former Hoops bit of business that never came to fruition. Tierney gave a very candid interview on Open Goal and some great bits came of it. From not feeling like he can’t return home to revealing a potential transfer, Tierney opened up about his boyhood club.

As far as potential transfers go, Tierney said that Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez almost joined Celtic on loan. Here is what he said to Open Goal and transcribed by Celts Are Here:

"“He (Martinez) was close to signing for Celtic on loan as well. He said Celtic had been in touch with him.“But he’s come in now and done brilliant.”"

That could have potentially been huge and depending on when it was may not have been entirely necessary. Last season saw the return of Fraser Forster and his subsequent revival of his career. It would make sense if the club pursued Martinez before bringing Forster in. And he has been absolutely sensational for Arsenal recently, meaning he would have probably been brilliant in the Hoops as well.

Kieran Tierney is still loved by many Hoops supporters across the world. The ones who have called him “Judas” should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Tierney was a player who gave the club his all and continues to be a supporter to this day despite wanting to test himself in the biggest way possible.
