Celtic have reportedly made a great offer for the Scottish wonderkid who is wanted by the likes of Bayern Munich and Bologna.

Celtic have started to make a move in the transfer market after having spent the early portion of the window getting rid of the deadwood in the squad. And there was a lot of it to be honest, as a number of the club’s signings have failed in recent times.

Since then though, the club have managed to sign the duo of Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti for a combined fee in the region of £9-10 million. And they are being linked with a number of other players as well with a number of positions in the team in need of recruitment.

The most popular of these is obviously Brighton’s Republic of Ireland international Shane Duffy. Celtic fans would absolutely love to get hold of the no nonsense defender as it has been become obvious that neither Ajer nor Jullien are up to the mark when it comes to dealing with physical strikers.

They cannot leave that kind of a hole in the defence though as opposition teams will surely look to exploit it through the course of the season. And that is something that they cannot afford in a season where 10IAR on the line. Thus, Duffy would be a great addition if they can get it done.

Centre-back is not the only position though which needs defensive reinforcements. Left-back is another. Neither Greg Taylor nor Bolingoli have looked the most convincing when given the chance. And with Bolingoli looking set to leave the club in this window, they must go for another left-back.

This is where Aaron Hickey comes in. The 18-year-old had a breakthrough season last year, nailing down the left-back position in the Hearts team which got relegated. It was enough to catch the eye of some of the biggest teams in Europe though, with Bayern Munich interested in his services.

Celtic though appear to have made an offer to the Scottish left-back to move to Parkhead according to highly reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. He wrote on his website:

"“The competition for the Heart of Midlothian fullback remains strong, as Bayern and Celtic are pushing for the player. The German club impressed Hickey with their structure, while the Scottish team made a great offer and would represent a less traumatic change for the player.”"

Hickey was a part of Celtic’s youth setup before he left for Hearts. That move has certainly paid off for him though and now the Scottish champions want him back. And to be realistic, a Parkhead switch seems to be the best move for him as he is not going to break into the Bayern Munich team ahead of Alphonso Davies anytime soon if ever.

The question is though, whether it is the right move for Celtic. Hickey is most probably not at the level yet to be a regular first-team starter for the Hoops. As a result, that would mean that Greg Taylor will be the man Neil Lennon will have to depend on for the entirety of the season. And that is not a comforting thought.
