Celtic have officially opened talks with their top transfer target as they look to leave no stone unturned in their quest for 10IAR.

Most of Celtic’s early transfer business has involved them getting rid of players who were not part of their first team plans in the future. Of course, the financial havoc that the global pandemic has wrecked upon clubs is a huge reason for that. But the club cannot afford to play safe with their transfer budget this season, with a historic 10IAR up for grabs.

As a result, now that they are done with getting rid of some of the deadwood, next thing on the agenda would be bring in players who will make this squad as strong as possible. With this in mind, the club has already spent around £10 million, acquiring the services of Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti. And both of them would probably be first team regulars under Neil Lennon this season, depending on the formation he deploys and the form that they showcase.

The spending cannot stop there though as the club must now look towards their defence. Many a time, the Hoops have been let down by Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer when up against physical forwards. And this is an issue that they must fix in this transfer window. One guy who can do that is Shane Duffy.

The Republic of Ireland international is out of favour at Brighton right now despite having a contract there until 2023. While Celtic might probably not be able to afford him in a straight deal, a loan move certainly is something that they must entertain. And it looks like they are doing so, as Daily Record reported that talks have officially begun between the two clubs regarding a loan move for Duffy.

Yes, Brighton are looking for a £2 million loan fee and that is steep. But consider how many players we have brought in for that amount, who have turned out to be absolute duds. Duffy will almost certainly improve this side and is just the kind of defender Celtic need right now. The fact that 10IAR is on the line makes this deal a no brainer.
