Celtic need to bring in some quality players immediately
Celtic’s toothless display against Kilmarnock in the 1-1 draw exposed a lot of the weaknesses in Neil Lennon’s squad and the need to recruit some quality.
It was a frustrating game to watch for any Celtic fan. The Hoops just could not make it into the Kilmarnock box and tried their luck from distance time after time without much luck. It was an uninspired display as the players clearly lacked the imagination to make things happen. This sort of a display would not have been surprising after a tough mid-week European away fixture but that was not the case here. We were just not good enough.
Hopefully, this serves as a wake up call for the board and they go out and recruit some quality players in the transfer market. At this point of time, Neil Lennon does not have many options to bring off the bench when things are not going Celtic’s way. Just take a look at the bench today, Klimala and Ntcham were probably the only two who could make a difference. That is not good enough.
James Forrest has not not been great since the second half of last season but who can Lennon throw on in place of him? Nobody. Our central defenders often get dominated by strong forwards, just like what happened today against Kabamba. Do we have an answer to that problem? Not at the moment. Do you have a player who can be the creative spark off the bench when others are having a bad game? No.
The club does not need to overhaul this squad. But it is far from perfect. And we need to be as close to perfect this season. There is no choice but to be considering 10IAR is on the line. These opportunities come only once in a lifetime. And we need to make sure we don’t need to let this slip.
