Rangers have just suffered another blow in their pursuit to offload Alfredo Morelos has hit another snag with buying club Lille.

Rangers have been trying desperately to sell striker Alfredo Morelos this transfer window. With financial uncertainty at Ibrox, the transfer fee could help bring in much needed cash flow to the struggling club.

Reports surfaced that Morelos had agreed to personal terms with French-side Lille and a transfer fee was being negotiated between the two clubs. It seemed all but a done deal, however nothing has come of it for weeks. Of course, Rangers have backed down on the asking price for the Colombian.

All Scottish football fans likely remember claims from the Ibrox crowd that Morelos could be worth anywhere from £25-100 million. These ridiculous claims were always just that- ridiculous. Now, Rangers have apparently significantly slashed whatever their previous asking price was. The idea or want of getting rid of Morelos seems to have become a necessity.

Now, there are reports that Lille is likely no longer interested in Morelos as they have started seeking out other options. It appears the French club has come to its senses. Here is what Sky Sports said on the matter:

"“Lille are on the verge of completing the signing of Gent striker Jonathan David, a move which is likely to end their interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.“David has agreed to join the Ligue 1 outfit for around £27m after Gent rejected a £23m offer last month.“A host of Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with the 20-year-old Canadian striker but Lille have secured the player who was joint top scorer with 18 goals in the Belgian league.“Lille made David their primary target following the signing of Burak Yilmaz, and with the returning Timothy Weah from a lengthy injury, Yusuf Yazici, plus highly-rated youngster Isaac Lihadji in their squad, the likelihood of Morelos swapping Scotland for France has, for now, decreased.”"

The likelihood of Morelos getting moved, to Lille at least, seems to be all but dead. One can only wonder what happened in the negotiations between the two clubs to have forced Lille to look elsewhere. It is likely that Rangers kept their asking price too high and Lille either didn’t want to pay or they didn’t want to deal with Morelos and his off the pitch issues.
