Celtic fans were not happy after news broke out that the club had opened talks with the free agent striker once wanted by Rangers.

Celtic have been linked with a number of strikers in recent weeks as Neil Lennon looks to add further firepower up top before challenging for 10IAR this season. The club’s latest target has not impressed the Hoops fans though and many of them would actually prefer getting Steven Fletcher over him.

Sky Sports has reported that Celtic have opened talks with Lyle Taylor. Now admittedly, Taylor had a very decent season, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for Charlton Athletic in the Championship. And that is even more impressive considering the fact that the club got relegated. His off-field issues though mean that he comes with a lot of baggage and will not be a popular signing even if the club manage to pull it off.

Previously linked with the Rangers, Taylor refused to turn out for Charlton Athletic after lockdown even though the club were in the middle of the relegation battle and would eventually get relegated to League One in his absence. Now that was a decision taken so that he could avoid any injury as his contract was running out with the club. Celtic fans were not impressed with him though and rightfully so.

It is not only Taylor’s decision to not turn out for his club that has made him a villain in the eyes of the fans but some of his comments on social media as well. But that is a topic for another day.

As a footballer, Lyle Taylor is quite decent and would do a job as a backup striker at the club. He could actually be a shrewd signing considering that he is a free agent. But he is not someone that Celtic fans would want to see represent the club. And that is something that the board have to keep in mind before making any decision.
