One Celtic star has received a massive injury blow after learning that he may require surgery in order to overcome his nagging injuries.

Celtic recently participated in a preseason tournament in France, where they now remain in order to take on Paris St. Germain on Tuesday. The tournament was productive due to players finding their fitness and rhythm, while also allowing younger players to face stiff talent and competition.

However, it wasn’t all positive. Despite once again noticing the glaring hole at left-back (again) there were a few other negatives that came out of this event. One was Leigh Griffiths’s lack of fitness and subsequent berating by manager Neil Lennon in public. The other is Mikey Johnston, who like Griffiths, didn’t make the trip to France due to injury.

Johnston’s injury seems to be a calf issue, and as Lennon has described something to do with maturation and growth. Now it appears that the injury may even require surgery in order to rectify.

Here is what Hoops manager Neil Lennon had to say after the match against Lyon as reported by The Sun:

"“He’s got an injury and he’s back home. Mikey has been having problems with his calves and he needs to see a specialist.“He’s not had much luck. It’s been a bit stop-start but with his age and going through the maturation process he’s picking up injuries. It’s frustrating for him and frustrating for us.”"

When healthy, Johnston represents a player that brings great energy and can be catalyst on the pitch. An injury requiring surgery likely means significant time missed, and the season is just around the corner on August 2nd.

With the 10-in-a-row on the line every player will need to do there part this season. Let’s hope that Mikey gets healthy soon and is ready to play when called upon. Because at the top of his game, he is a brilliant player.
