Brendan Rodgers seems intent on destroying whatever legacy he has left at Celtic and his recent comments must have burned down a few more bridges.

He could have been a legend, he could have waited longer, he walked out instead leaving Celtic for Leicester City and he’s still trying to justify the move with comments over the weekend. It won’t wash Brendan, sorry, but you had your chance and you blew it.

The Daily Record are reporting Rodgers latest comments where he compares what he hasn’t quite yet achieved with Leicester City with the invincible season at Celtic. He reckons that getting Leicester into a top 4 position in the English Premier League would make him just as proud as that terrific achievement and season leading the Hoops.

As the Record put it:

"“Brendan Rodgers insists securing a top-four place for Leicester City would match any of the honours he achieved as Celtic gaffer”"

Maybe there is a point missing from what the Record have reported. Leicester are clinging on to 4th place now, they are equal on points and equal on goal difference too with fifth placed Manchester United. United though have a crucial game in hand.

But the Leicester form is atrocious, since the restart they’ve managed only 9 points from 8 league games and not being playing too many of the bigger teams in that run. The 4-1 defeat against struggling Bournemouth must have been quite embarrassing for Rodgers. It certainly added to the run of Leicester fans turning against him and hoping he’ll be on his way out soon. Today’s 3-0 loss away at Spurs surely only ramps up the pressure.

That leaves just one match remaining for Rodgers, a huge 6 pointer at home against on form Manchester United. 4th place is very much up in the air. Perhaps with the way his team have let their form slip, securing fourth place would be quite an achievement.

But it’s never up there with that Invincibles season as far as any Celtic fan is concerned. It’s just Rodgers trying to explain again his walk out or perhaps help him manage his own guilt and realisation as his Leicester trip looks like maybe coming to an end and leaving him who knows where.

Look at what you could have had Brendan, by all means. But it’s gone now, so just let it rest. If the job at Leicester ends quickly you’ll still have the Invincibles DVD to watch.
