Celtic have reportedly held transfer talks with the in-demand free agent who is also a target for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

It was only a matter of time before Celtic made a move in the transfer market. Multiple sources have reported that the Hoops have made initial contact regarding a move for former Charlton marksman Lyle Taylor. 30-year-old Taylor has made headlines across English football in recent times, refusing to play for the relegation-threatened Addicks due to fears over a potential injury which could have jeopardised conceivably his biggest career move to date.

Celtic have apparently staged “tentative talks” with the Montserrat international, with the Bhoys keen to bolster their front line ahead of the forthcoming campaign according to the Daily Record. Although some would argue there are more pressing positional concerns at the Parkhead club, another forward could be necessary if the Hoops elect to stick with Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 formation that improved fortunes drastically at Celtic Park in the second half of last season.

Statistically, the former Partick Thistle striker has been prolific in the 2019/20 calendar; amassing 11 goals in 22 fixtures for the struggling London club. Altogether, a strike rate of 36 goals in 67 appearances has only served to further solidify suitors chasing the Greenwich-born attacker.

Interest in Taylor is rumoured to be high this summer, the global pandemichas led many sides to cut costs and seek frugal alternatives when possible, because of the financial toll the virus has taken on football, which has made players contractual circumstances a topic of increased focus for clubs .

Hoops boss Lennon will need to act swiftly to secure his signature, as up to ten clubs having allegedly reached out to the experienced forward including Glasgow rivals Rangers alongside Turkish giants Galatasaray. Perhaps we may see Lyle Taylor in a Celtic jersey sooner rather than later.
