Celtic make enquiry about £17-million Premier League star
Celtic have made an enquiry about the £17 million Premier League star, who is expected to be available in the upcoming transfer window.
Celtic will have the chance to capture a record-breaking 10th straight Scottish league title next season. It is considered by the fans as the Holy Grail of Scottish football and has never been achieved before. Thus, failure is not an option. As a result, the club are expected to enter the season with as strong a squad as they possibly can.
The global pandemic has caused huge financial loss to clubs around the globe though and Celtic are not untouched. Fans are not expected inside stadiums for the foreseeable future and a fully packed Paradise is something that we probably won’t see anytime next season. Thus, there is going to be significant loss in matchday revenue although the Hoops fans have come out strong and renewed their season tickets.
They will be demanding the club to reinvest that money in the transfer market though as 10IAR is not something that cannot be left to chance. While Celtic won the Premiership comfortably last season, it cannot be said that there were not any hiccups along the way. The terrible performances in the Scottish League Cup final and the last Derby of the decade spring to mind immediately.
The early portion of this season’s business has involved letting go off some of the players without an immediate future at the club. And while things have been slow, it looks like they are certainly picking up now.
According to The Mirror, Celtic have made an enquiry about the availability of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Daniel Podence on loan next season:
"Celtic head a list of clubs that have enquired about taking the winger on loan next season. But Nuno’s plans for him are unknown as he has barely played for his new club this term.Podence was expected to play a significant part after his move from Greece but has failed to figure and has only just returned to the squad after spending a week in isolation following a trip to Portugal. Podence is again unlikely to figure at Molineux as Nuno prepares to stop the rot."
Podence was signed by Wolves for a massive £17 million transfer fee but has endured a horrid time since then. He had two outstanding seasons with Olympiacos that convinced the Premier League side to shell out the cash, but has appeared a mere shadow of that player in England.
If Celtic manage to sign him, it will be very similar to the Mohamed Elyounoussi deal that they pulled off where they brought in a talented winger who had struggled to adjust in English conditions but had immense potential.
