Reports that Celtic had made an official bid for the goal machine had sent the fans into frenzy but there is a major twist in the tale.

Celtic fans have been waiting for quite some time for the club to make a move. The early portion of their business consisted of letting go of players that they did not believe had much of a future at Parkhead although Jonny Hayes’ exit gave rise to a lot of debate.

The Hoops did manage to bring back Mohamed Elyounoussi on another season-long loan spell after his first stint at the club was derailed through injuries after a promising start, in which he provided 7 goals and 6 assists. The return of Fraser Forster was seen as a priority though and that is looking very unlikely as the Englishman apparently wants to fight for his place at Southampton.

As a result, when news broke out that the club had made a bid for Shon Weissman, the fans went into a frenzy. The news seemed to come from the Wolfsberger president himself. As reported by Kleine Zeitung, he said:

"“As you already know, he wants to go to Germany or England.“But we’ve not yet had any inquiries from there.“Offers have come, amongst others, from Russia and Scotland, from Glasgow Celtic.“Because of the Corona crisis, everything is different this year. The seasons in Germany have now ended.“The clubs know where they will play in the coming season. I think the next few days will be interesting for Shon.”"

But according to The Scottish Sun, a source from the club have made it clear that no formal bid has been for the striker.

Shon Wiessman will have no lack of suitors though having bagged 37 goals in just 40 games last season. And with only one year left on his current contract with Wolfsberger, he will more than likely be available on a cut price deal.

Celtic have there own problems at striker as well, with Bayo looking at an exit after having been proved a flop during his time at Parkhead. That might leave the club looking for another striker though with question marks over Griffiths once again and Klimala not exactly the man the club can rely on in case Edouard got injured.

The fact that the club have not made an offer yet does not mean that they will not do so in the future. And there are few strikers that they can bring in who had a more prolific season than Weissman.
