Celtic may need to address the goalkeeper sooner rather than later during this window. Now, they know how much it will cost to sign Vasilios Barkas.

Celtic may be left scrambling to figure out the goalkeeper situation prior to the start of the season that has 10-in-a-row sitting at the end. Most fans and to be completely honest the board, probably believed that the beloved Fraser Forster would make his return to the club whether on loan or a permanent basis.

While that may still hold true, it is reported that Southampton want £10 million

for the big man and that doesn’t even include his weekly wages. Those factors alone make it difficult to envision Forster in Parkhead on a permanent basis, but never count Peter Lawwell and his shrewd negotiating and business practices out for the count.

So, what if Forster doesn’t work out? Well for starters, Vasilios Barkas, the AEK Athens goalkeeper, has been linked with a possible move to the Hoops, and a few other European clubs for that matter. But now it appears AEK have their price according to TBR Football.

The Greek club apparently needs to move at least one player to help free up some finances according to TBR Football and the club is willing to move Barkas for £7.2 million. That is a significant drop in price point from Southampton’s current asking price for Forster.

Clearly Forster is the first and quite possibly the best option when it comes to who will play between the sticks for Celtic in the 10IAR campaign. He also represents the best chance at the position to help propel the Hoops to the Champions League Group Stage this season for the first time in over three years.

However, if Forster is not an option, then Barkas represents a high quality alternative who has drawn attention and praise from numerous European clubs based on his performance last season.
