Celtic might be set to suffer a huge blow as they are in danger of losing out on a massive cash windfall that they were hoping for.

Football is a funny game. Many times things that do not have anything to do with your club can end up altering your club’s plans.

During his time at Celtic, Moussa Dembele was a huge hit, scoring 51 times in 94 appearances for the Hoops. That kind of form convinced Lyon to pay a £18 million transfer fee to sign him. He has continued to sign there as well, scoring 22 goals and providing 7 assists this season. As a result, he is now being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Now this is where Celtic get involved with Dembele again as they have a significant sell on clause in his contract. This is expected to be around 10 percent of whatever Lyon receive for the striker. And with astronomical fees over £50 million being thrown around, this could end up being a significant amount of money. Especially this time around when the club will be losing out on a lot of money in matchday revenue.

There is some bad news for Celtic fans hoping for Dembele to move for a huge transfer fee though as Lyon boss Rudi Garcia has revealed that there has no been no offer for him and is hopeful of him staying at the club next season. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“His position remains the same, along with Houssem Aouar. I remain very hopeful that both players will stay at the club and will be with us next season.“There are a lot of things that come into play with both of them, such as the will of the players. But at this moment, there has been no offers.”"

After the amount of rumours that had linked Dembele with a move away, it had looked like a given that he was gonna make a big money move this summer. But the global pandemic has hit clubs around the world hard and one can only wonder how many clubs still have that kind of money to spend on transfers.
