After a surprising move by Celtic, legend Chris Sutton is now questioning whether or not it was the best course of action.

Celtic has made quite a few moves, some surprising, others not so much. This transfer window proves to be an interesting one and we have already had plenty of evidence to support that. With the promised revamping we have seen the exits of Jozo Simunovic, Calvin Miller and Jonny Hayes.

However, the exit of Jonny Hayes did not make sense to us here at The Celtic Bhoys. For starters, he was a fan favourite. Secondly, he was incredibly versatile as far as having the ability to play at multiple positions. In fact, many thought he was one of the more capable left-backs on the club.

It is for this reason that Hoops legend Chris Sutton decided to question the idea of allowing Hayes to leave. Sutton always has the Hoops’ best in mind when he speaks. He is unequivocally one of Celtic’s biggest supporters in the media. So when he has something to say, most listen.

In his Daily Record column, Sutton let’s his thoughts and concerns be known regarding the Hoops’ decision to let Hayes walk:

"“Hayes (leaving), in particular, struck me as a strange one.“I’m a fan of his as a squad player. He was always ready and willing when called upon and did a good job for Lennon whenever asked.“The key thing about Hayes is he could do that job in three positions… Hayes was steady away, but if you think back to a game such as Hamilton away last season when Celtic were toiling at 1-1 against 10 men when he came on, he could impact enough and make a huge difference to help win the game.“I don’t profess to knowing his contract situation, but there’s no way he was one of the club’s big earners, so with costs not so high and an ability to cover a variety of positions, it doesn’t make sense to me he’s gone.”"

We have to agree with the big man. Hayes embodied what it meant to wear the Green and White. Always a team player, always ready when called upon. Plus, his talent and versatility allowed him to be an integral stop gap, especially when injuries are always a concern.

Chris Sutton has always told it like it is. As always, he is spot on when it comes to the Hoops not resigning Jonny Hayes.
