Odsonne Edouard opens up about his future at Celtic
Odsonne Edouard has finally decided to open up about his Celtic future amidst rumours linking him away from Parkhead.
For how good Odsonne Edouard has been at Celtic, it was only a matter of time before the European giants would come calling. And the sad reality of the situation is that Celtic cannot financially compete with a number of them despite being bigger than them as a club. As result, time after time we have witnessed brilliant players leave Parkhead for more lucrative leagues.
The Frenchman’s story is expected to be no different. He scored 27 goals and provided 19 assists in just 45 appearances before the season had to be called off due to the global pandemic. That is a goal involvement of more than a goal every game! No wonder clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United seem to be interested in signing him.
Edouard’s contract runs out with the club in 2022. Celtic fans would have been hoping to keep him at least for the next season when the club have the chance of lifting a historical tenth straight Scottish league title. And it looks like their prayers have been answered.
Neil Lennon had already come out and admitted that contract negotiations were underway between the club and the player. Now Edouard has also pretty much admitted that he will be staying. Earlier he had made his desire to be a part of 10IAR known to Celtic TV and after being named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, he has only doubled down on those comments. As reported by the Daily Mail, he said:
"“Of course, I would love to be part of it. No one knows what will happen in the future but I want to be a part of it.“My first target right now is to play football again after so much time away from the pitch. I only set personal targets for myself once the season actually starts. At the moment, I am still under contract with Celtic and my priority is to get back playing again.”"
It is brilliant news for the club as he is a very important part of this team and it would have been almost an impossible task to find a replacement in case he left. Him staying is bigger than any signing that Celtic could have made in this transfer window.
