Kristoffer Ajer’s transfer saga has taken another twist as it has been revealed that he has a clause in his Celtic contract.

The long drawn transfer saga for Kristoffer Ajer has taken another unexpected twist. Earlier it had looked like the Norwegian was sure to head out of the exit door after his agent had announced his desire to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

That does not seem as likely right now though after Ajer cut ties with the agent in question. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is sure to end up staying at Parkhead. He might just be looking for an agent who can get him a better deal somewhere else.

Whatever may be the case, Celtic are expected to ask for a king’s random in exchange for Ajer. The fee earlier touted was close to the £25 million mark but the global pandemic is expected to hit the transfer market hard. But even then the Hoops are not expected to let him leave for anything less than £20 million.

Recent revelations though suggest that a significant part of that money will be going to Ajer’s former club IK Start as there is a sell on clause in his contract.

As reported by the Daily Record, IK Start’s former director Ogrey Brandsdal said:

"“When we sold him to Celtic, we were also in a very tight financial position and that made the negotiations very pressurised.“But from the very first moment we saw Kristoffer, we knew he would be playing in the top leagues one day.“So although we needed the money urgently, we sacrificed some of it so we could add the sell-on clause. We took a long-term view of his career.“Celtic are known to develop and sell players. They will want a good return on him and won’t allow him to see out his contract.”"

That was clearly the right decision for the Norwegian club as they will be in line for a significant cash windfall if Ajer ends up leaving. And while it was not revealed how much the sell on clause is, one can expect it to be in the range of 5-10%, which is a lot considering the transfer fee Celtic are expected to receive for the defender.
