Celtic have placed a huge price tag on Kristoffer Ajer’s head with a number of European giants looking to make a move for the Norwegian.
Celtic have already begun their preparations for next season as a number of players have been let go of over the past week. Eboue Kouassi moved to Belgian side Genk, while Calvin Miller, Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic were considered surplus to requirements. More exits are expected to follow.
One of those exits might be that of Norwegian defender Kris Ajer, whose representative has already announced that he plans to leave Parkhead in the upcoming transfer window. And with one foot already out of the door, Celtic will do well to sell him to the highest bidder instead of trying to hold on to him.
Ajer’s plans to leave the Hoops was probably the reason behind his form taking a hit after an exceptional start to the season, when it looked like he was the standout player in Neil Lennon’s side.
Apparently, those performances were enough though to catch the eye of some of the biggest clubs around Europe. It was earlier reported that teams like AC Milan and Leicester City were interested. And now names like Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been added to the list of his Ajer’s possible suitors. And if the rumours are accurate, then it will be extremely hard to keep hold of the defender.
And it looks like Celtic are already preparing for life after Ajer. According to Football Insider, the board has set a £20 million price tag on Ajer’s head and will let him leave if it is met. They are also expected to demand a sell on clause.
It will be interesting to see the state of the upcoming transfer market. The prices are expected to come down and Celtic will do extremely well if they are able to get £20 million for Ajer.
