Brendan Rodgers appears to suggest that someone around the club wanted Scott Brown gone when he took over at Celtic as manager.

Brendan Rodgers time as Celtic manager was a period filled with trophies and he was well on his way to becoming a club legend before leaving them to hang out in the dry in the middle of the season in order to join Leicester City. The move was seen as betrayal by most Hoops fans and as a result, despite his undeniable success, he is not liked much at Parkhead these days anymore.

The biggest problem with Rodgers was the fact that he always claimed himself to be a childhood fan of the club and wanted to be seen as one of the supporters. But when the time came to back up his words, he decided to leave for the riches of the Premier League.

That has never stopped him though from continuously bringing up Celtic in the media. His latest claim though is incredible.

Rodgers has claimed that he was told to get rid of Scott Brown after the Celtic captain had put in a couple of below par seasons under Ronny Deila. He doesn’t reveal though who it exactly was that gave him this advice although previously he has mentioned in the media how he didn’t tell friends and family about joining Celtic beforehand. So this sounds like someone associated with the club or Scottish football at least.

As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said:

"“He was an incredible captain for me. But funny enough, before I joined, someone rang me and was telling me about the job and one of the first things they said was, ‘If you’re going to play how you want to play there Brendan, you’re probably going to have to move on Scott’.”"

Now what is the point of bringing up this story right now? Who knows? Maybe Rodgers wants credit for reviving Broony’s Celtic career. Or maybe he just wants some attention.
