It looks like the Celtic fans are not the only ones who have not forgiven Brendan Rodgers for his Parkhead exit.

Brendan Rodgers talked today about how some of his family haven’t forgiven him for leaving Celtic. Or at least he thinks they haven’t – he says they aren’t talking to him any more, so maybe he can’t be sure!

It’s a really Interesting thought that many felt Rodgers played up the Celtic family background. He’s been a fan since his Hoops mad family gave him his first green and white dummy as a baby was the impression portrayed.

But then lots was said in his time at Celtic, and much turned out to be slightly different. Rodgers heartwarming story of meeting Danny McGrain being a great example.  McGrain didn’t recall it in the same way, if at all and described the story as embarrassing and about selling books.

Speaking on the Beautiful Game Podcast and as reported by the Mirror, the former Celtic manager said:

"“I had family who were just distraught I left Celtic, just couldn’t believe it.“I have relations that haven’t spoken to me since the day I left Celtic.“Because it meant so much to them. And if you carry on like that too much, you’ll never do anything.”"

So is the current story correct? Is it to build some sympathy and forgiveness from Celtic fans? If it’s correct it could prove in an odd way that it is a true Celtic family.

His role as Celtic manager ‘meant so much’ to his family, he said that they were ‘distraught’ when he abandoned the club in February 2019 and have even cut off contact with him since.

Rodgers admits that it was not an easy decision to leave the club but one he had to take. He acknowledged the chance to win trebles. But he felt the team was in a good place and it was a good time to move on. If you read the Daily Mail article you can read his thought process and the platitudes to get back on side with Hoops fans (and maybe his family too seeing as they won’t talk to him).

It was a hard decision apparently. Giving up being a potential legend at Parkhead, to secure a third successive treble treble and potentially lead the club into 9 and 10 in a row league wins. But he says the chance to build at team at Leicester outweighed all that.

Brendan a quiet word, please. Celtic legend status vs being liked at Leicester. No wonder the family aren’t speaking to you.

Does it wash? Is everything forgiven? Is it believable?

Not really for many hoops followers. Good luck with the Christmas card list Brendan, you probably won’t need a huge space.
