There is now good news for Celtic fans and Scottish football as UEFA has given SPFL the green light to crown the Hoops as champions.

After two months of no football being played, economic hardships taking hold and more questions than answers there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Celtic could as soon as Monday be crowned champions for the coveted nine-in-a-row.

The question was never IF the Hoops would be crowned champions just a matter of when and how. At the beginning the idea of playing football again was very much a possibility, even without fans. But as the national crisis due to the novel coronavirus has not eased up that is no longer possible.

So now the only option, much to Rangers chagrin, is to conclude the season and rightfully name Celtic the champions. While many, most Ibrox supporters, will say there is an “asterisk” next to this title, few should care or listen to that. According to the Daily Record UEFA has given the green light.

The SPFL has needed the go-ahead from UEFA in order to conclude the season due to the earlier threats that Scotland could lose its European slots for next season if they acted unilaterally. All that is left is for the SPFL to hand the title to the Hoops and call it a season.

Of course this also leaves questions to fairness for relegation purposes as Hearts will surely be sent down. At the end of the day, getting crowned champion is the only thing Hoops fans should be concerned with. That seems very likely to occur in short order.
