The South is stopping Celtic from being crowned champions

It’s like the return of an old England v Scotland home international as we see opposing views and approaches lining up to face each other,  with a punch up at the end.

Currently it’s hard to tell who’ll win but like many of those old matches, a red card looks highly possible soon with so many warnings already issued. Unfortunately, Celtic’s coronation is being pushed back as a result.

In England the stakes are high in money terms, like a highly paid squad who may be more interested in the money than the game itself. Huge sums are at risk if the season cannot be finalised properly. But the debate does seem a bit more controlled and dignified than in Scotland

While the government from London tells English clubs there is hope and scope to be able to play on behind closed doors from early June, somehow that will fit under Stay Alert. In Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon continues her very clear and more robust lockdown approach. As reported by The Scottish Sun, she said:

"“Our focus has to be on continuing to tackle this virus and continuing to save lives.“If that means a bit longer without football, I’m afraid that’s a price we’re going to have to pay.”"

Stay At Home means football in Scotland is already barred through until mid June, on Good Morning Britain on Monday morning TV Nicola Sturgeon managed Scottish football fans expectations by indicating it was likely to be a lot longer before a ball is kicked in anger. Well, on a pitch anyway as she still seemed a tad angry with the government in London!

Back to England where the FA this time raised the demand of deciding the leagues based on sporting merit.  Pretty much that means the option of Null and Void is a no go. Likewise while some clubs (mainly backed by those at the bottom) had raised a suggestion to scrap relegation, the FA have kyboshed that approach too. Either Project Restart needs to work or they’ll have to agree to use points per game to decide places.

Whereas in Scotland democracy under the SPFL should be prevailing, except it’s got the look instead of one of those huge fights where suddenly an ice hockey match breaks out.

Almost everyone is swinging a punch or aiming a kick, sometimes at whoever has just hit them, occasionally in response to a swipe from a few years back. Tuesdays vote meaning an independent inquiry request has failed may help settle matters, or provoke further statements and disarray.

Celtic on the other hand are very quiet, sat up at the back of the stand near the trophy room with a bag of popcorn and watching what’s going on.

It’s quite a north-south divide for sure. Eventually it all has to come to an end, will it be by KO or a judges decision?
