Rangers find themselves humiliated again as their attempt to force an independent investigation failed spectacularly in today’s EGM meeting of the 42 clubs.

The Rangers just cannot catch a break at this point of time. After spending months pushing the ‘null and void’ narrative, it became clear that that was not a viable option when the three lower leagues were brought to an end as things stood with it becoming necessary to distribute the prize money to the clubs, who were struggling to make ends meet with no football on the horizon.

The SPFL vote that decided to end the lower leagues caused great controversy though with Dundee FC withdrawing their original vote and then going in favour of the motion. Rangers decided to call foul play and even went as far as to blame the SPFL of ‘bullying’ and ‘corruption’.

Now while it might seem like common sense that clubs would like to get their prize money in order to stay afloat in a time of financial need, for some reason Rangers felt that there was a lot more at play behind the scenes. As a result, they called for an independent investigation into the voting process and called out for the suspension of Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzie.

Today, an EGM was called with a vote taking place in order to decide whether an independent investigation was necessary. And the results were as many would have expected. While the Ibrox club had managed to gain the support of several clubs in the week leading up to the meeting, only 13 voted in favour of the motion. 32 votes were required for it to go through!

As reported by The Scottish Sun, following the result, Neil Doncaster said:

"“It was a good meeting, there was some good exchanges of views but ultimately the clubs have spoken.“They’ve given a very clear indication that they did not want to see this independent review that was being sought by three clubs.“And in my view, it’s a very clear mandate that the board should put all of our attention to the really important work of getting the game back up in running in Scotland as soon as we can, as safe as we can.”"

All this might have been for nothing though. Leagues around the world are slowly but surely planning their comebacks. The Bundesliga will return to action as early as this weekend while La Liga players have also resumed training. The Premier League has also been given the permission to resume in June.

As a result, the Scottish Premiership might return to action soon as well and all the 38 games might be played – like the Celtic fans have always wanted. Is that what the Rangers fans also want though? Or are they still after the ‘null and void’ unicorn? One can only wonder.
