The former Celtic man came under fire from the Hoops fans after publicly supporting the Rangers in their battle against the SPFL.

Since the beginning of the battle between the Rangers and the SPFL, the Ibrox club have failed to provide any evidence to suggest that they deserve the independent investigation that they have been calling for. Yet Steven Gerrard’s side have managed to find a supporter in the form of Celtic star Kris Commons.

The whole controversy began with the SPFL vote to bring an end to the lower three Scottish leagues so that the prize money could be distributed to the clubs struggling financially in these dire times. Dundee FC though decided to withdraw their original vote and then voted in favour of the motion the second time round.

This caused huge controversy though considering the fact that they had the deciding vote. So much so that the Rangers went as far as to blaming the SPFL of ‘bullying’ and ‘corruption’, claiming that they even had a dossier of evidence. They even called for the suspensions of Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzzie on the basis of this dossier apparently provided to them by a whistleblower.

That dossier has been provided to all the other 41 clubs since then and it is safe to say that it has failed to make the mark that the Rangers were hoping for. Now a EGM is scheduled for May 12 when all the clubs will vote with regards to an independent investigation being arranged.

There is no question in Kris Commons’ mind though, as he has openly supported Rangers’ call for an independent investigation. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he wrote in the Daily Mail:

"“If I’m a club chairman tomorrow, there’s no doubt in my mind that I’ll be voting in favour of an independent investigation into the SPFL’s handling of the resolution to end leagues as they stood.“I think there are now enough unanswered questions about the whole sorry episode. They are also being asked by enough different people.“The fact Rangers are prepared to fund it removes one obstacle and also suggests they feel they will be vindicated. So there’s nothing to lose.”"

Commons is without doubt one of the best players to pull on the Hoops since the turn of the century. But since hanging up his boots, he has certainly rubbed his fair share of Celtic fans the wrong way.
