Scott Brown, the legendary Celtic captain, has named the best teammate he has ever had during his time with the Hoops in a recent interview.

It is not often when Celtic captain Scott Brown makes some honest admissions to the media, but recently he did. Brown has been the center-piece of a phenomenal Celtic squad for the better part of the last 13 years. So when he speaks you better listen.

Part of being with the Hoops for the last 13 years is you have seen every manager, player, and drama unfold in real-time. Not many people, if hardly anyone can say the same thing. Especially at the ground level. Several high dollar players with an immense amount of talent have passed through the halls of Paradise during that time.

Now, in a recent interview, Scott Brown has revealed the best player he has ever taken the field with during their time with the Hoops. The response may not come as quite a shock to some. But for many, it will solidify what we already knew.

Speaking with the BBC Sportsound, and reported by the Daily Record, this is what the Hoops captain had to say regarding the best player he has ever taken the field with:

"“Virgil. Absolute Rolls Royce.“He came and you knew he had quality but he just at the time didn’t look after himself as well as he probably should have done.“Neil had him in the gym, double sessions, and he lost about half a stone or three-quarters of a stone.“You just saw him slowly producing these quality results, pulling everyone together.“He pretty much held that back four together through thick and thin and you appreciate what he’s doing now because you see he’s the best defender in the world now.“He just goes up gears and I don’t think anyone beat him in a one-on-one in the English Premier League for about seventy-eighty games.“He was an absolute Rolls Royce. You could see he was going to go through another couple of levels as well.“There are a lot of fast players in this league and he was just cruising past them. That’s a big 6ft 4in centre-half so you can imagine what he’s like now and how well he’s doing.”"

Virgil van Dijk as we all know moved on from the Hoops and went to become a star for Liverpool in the English Premier League. While many fans harbour ill-sentiment towards players who do that, it clearly is not the case for Scott Brown who undoubtedly cherished his time with the star.

While the skipper makes some funny remarks regarding the defender’s weight, it just goes to show the talent van Dijk had. It also represents the respect Brown had and continues to have for his former teammate.
