UEFA has hinted that is may give the go ahead to crown Celtic the Scottish Premiership League champions when it meets next week.

We may soon finally have some clarity, and hopefully closure, on the Scottish Premiership League’s season next. UEFA is reportedly meeting next week to determine how to bring a conclusion to league seasons considering there is no viable path forward to continue playing. Celtic should be crowned champions if this is the case.

Much discussion, debates and rumours have floated around since the SPFL and most other football leagues were suspended due to the novel coronavirus early last month. The most logical scenario has always been to just call the season, or let it play out behind closed doors. Continuing to play behind closed doors poses significant challenges that have quickly become nonviable.

A conclusion to the the season would not only see Celtic win their coveted nine-in-a-row, but would also bring some financial relief to clubs that are suffering due to the shutdown. While this may upset other clubs that would have preferred to play out the season, this would be the most equitable solution for all.

The lower leagues in Scottish football have already come to a conclusion after Dundee FC finally voted on a resolution to see it ended. The same could be done for the Premiership soon.

According to The Sun, Star Red Belgrade’s chief executive Zvezdan Terzic believes UEFA will be on board with this:

"“There are three scenarios available to leagues like ours. The first is to hope we can eventually continue the season, the second is to declare it null and void and the third is to do what Scotland and Belgium have done and end the season now.“We have been in constant contact with UEFA. Scotland and Belgium have argued their case with sound reason and I know UEFA will now accept it.”"

Now, the SPFL must decide how to fairly incorporate new procedures to ensure that the 2020/21 season is conducted in a proper fashion, while taking into consideration relegation and promotions to and from the lower leagues to the Premiership.
