The former Ibrox star’s admission will leave a lot of Rangers fans fuming as they have somehow convinced themselves that they still can win the Premiership.
It’s only so many times you can repeat a lie before you start to believe it yourself. That is exactly what has happened with Rangers fans in recent months as they have continuously tried to convince others that they still have a chance of catching Celtic if the league is resumed and as a result, it will be a mistake on the part of the SPFL to declare the Hoops champions at this point.
For those unaware of the circumstances, Celtic had a 13 point lead over Steven Gerrard’s side before the league was forced into suspension due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus. But with just 8 games to go, even a monumental effort from the Rangers most probably would not have been enough to catch up with Celtic.
And judging by the form that they had showcased since their return from the winter break, the gap was only going to increase. And it is not just those associated with Celtic who believe this but some of the Ibrox faithful as well.
Ex-Rangers striker Billy Dodds is of the same view and even tipped his former club to go trophyless again in case the season was resumed. Speaking with Glasgow Evening Times, he said:
"“I don’t think Rangers have any chance of winning the league if the season is continued, because that would mean Celtic would have to slip up.“I think the Europa League is beyond them as well, Leverkusen were a step up in class and it is too much of an ask for Rangers.”"
While this is something that every football fan in Scotland is already aware of, it is truly surprising that someone associated with the Ibrox club has actually admitted to it.
