Incredible decline in Rangers’ asking price for Morelos
By Kade Kistner
Rangers have always highly overvalued striker Alfredo Morelos. But their asking price has dramatically fallen in recent weeks.
Rangers have often overvalued players, seemingly to try and recoup some of the wasted cash they spent on them in the first place. In an attempt to try and close the gap between them and Celtic, frivolously we might add, Rangers have seemingly once again put themselves in a bit of a financial bind.
We have heard reports of the Ibrox club valuing Alfredo Morelos above £50m, of course that could have just been talk to try and swindle unsuspecting clubs into taking their biggest problem off their hands.
As Hoops fans are well aware at this point, Morelos is a liability. He routinely is fined, and suspended. He rarely plays by the rules set forth for him i.e. not returning from Colombia on time. Furthermore, his inability to score against Celtic, arguably the biggest matches of the season, are all reasons Morelos has not been moved yet.
Now, that incredibly high asking price has dramatically crashed according to the Daily Mail. Ibrox is either in search of quick cash, or a quick solution to their problem. Most likely both.
"“Morelos’ potent record has attracted a number of potential suitors which include Leicester, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, according to Goal.T”he report details that LaLiga trio Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla are also keeping an eye on the 23-year-old’s future. Italian side Inter Milan, currently managed by Antonio Conte, are also thought to be interested.“It also states that a fee of around £13m (€15m) would be required to lure Morelos away from Ibrox in the coming months. Whilst there’s little doubting Morelos’ goalscoring capabilities, there have been serious concerns raised about his temperament.”"
Now, Morelos has scored goals domestically at a respectable rate, and his European record is good too. As far as talent goes, Morelos has it. However, his inability to see past himself, and play for his club, rather than himself, has caused issues.
Perhaps a flashier league would suit him and his personality better over the gritty Scottish Premiership League where toughness, teamwork, and selflessness are valued attributes. If you need to see an example of we are talking about, just look across town at Parkhead. It’s no secret why there is a winning culture over there.
